Searching for Bird's Nests

The reason I decided to call this “Searching for Bird’s Nests” is because of something that happened almost 15 years ago when Rachel had cancer. She had the adult type of Leukemia when she was 2 years old. It was like walking around in a nightmare that we just couldn’t wake up from. When it was all over and we amazingly still had our little girl with us, we saw so many ways that the Lord had blessed us through that nightmare and transformed us and taught us new things we could not have known otherwise. When Rachel’s hair began to grow back, we threw Rachel’s old hair (that we had saved when it fell out) around the yard to celebrate that Rachel was still with us and that she would have hair again. A few weeks later, walking to my car, I saw at my feet a small bird’s nest that had fallen from a tree. Interwoven in all of the tiny little branches was Rachel’s hair that we had scattered around the yard. It seemed like a reminder from God that He can take the darkest, most painful experiences of our lives and weave them together into something beautiful.

Continuing On ~

We are continuing to visit Bretta every week, hoping that Rachel will be able to push past her fear and sit on her again.  Even small things like moving her hand from one side of the saddle to the other side have to be practiced over and over to feel comfortable for her.  Thankfully Shannon continues to be the most patient person on the planet. She keeps cheering Rach on.

There are some goats at the barn that are fun to watch. Unfortunately they love to eat Shannon’s trees.

The horses are so beautiful and gentle.

We’re going to the zoo more often now that the weather is nice.

Dave has been working with Rachel on the driveway with her basketball “skills” and taking her to the new basketball group. Go Coach Daddy!

We’re still waiting to hear from our insurance so we can do the sleep apnea test.  They are being slower than expected but I’m really excited to see the results of that test.  So we just keep walking this path, thankful for every day and trusting God to make the way clear in His time. (Yes, you’re seeing that right. We got Rach a pink and purple basketball.  Dave is very secure with his manhood.)
